  1. Update the filter - especially the gaming category

We have far to many gaming sites being accessed by students - your filter for catching these is not very good, as evidenced by the long list I have to keep adding to each day.

Thanks for pushing for an improvement in our filtering. As a first step, we just released an algorithm to do automatic website categorization for the three most requested categories – “pornography”, “online games”, and “movies and television”. Thus, if a student accesses an uncategorized site, we check the content on each page and add it to the above categories automatically if the content matches.

What this means for you: considering that there are thousands of websites created every day specifically to circumvent URL blocking, category blacklisting will be more effective in blocking new and uncategorized sites. In addition, you should be able to spend less time manually tracking new sites that are getting around the filter and adding them to our and your blacklists.

We are currently categorizing 2000+ sites every day that students are visiting that would get around any list or database type filter. Please let me know…

  2. Add proxy sites to categories for blocking

I have students finding all kinds of proxy sites to get past blockages, but there is no category for all these.

Thanks for your request! We just added another 3000 proxy sites to our blacklist. However, we also realize that proxy mirror sites are being added daily, so we are working on a way to automatically categorize new proxy sites that students visit as well as improving flagged activity so that even if a student is using a proxy, we are giving you insight and awareness about what they are doing.

  3. List the last (or last few) devices a student logs into by MAC address and (local) IP address if available

As an admin in an environment where students share devices and have access to more than one Chrombook, I find myself often wishing that I had a way of seeing what device a student logged into last.

As a feature, I would like to be able to search for a student and see not only history, but also the device information to include the devices MAC, IP or serial number. All of those if available.

This ability would also help me with identifying vandals when investigating damage and vandalism incidents.

EDIT: Sometimes when devices go missing, we do not realize…

We just launched the first version of app reporting in the “Enhanced View” beta, including the ability to search by apps that your students have installed. A total list of apps is still in the works as some schools have 100s of thousands of apps and extensions being used by their students and we are working on the best way to display them.

If you are interested in testing the functionality and providing feedback, please email me at cody@goguardian.com and we can get you on the beta!

    Thank you!

  5. Provide more device information in user reports

When searching user information, it would be beneficial to see what device the person was using. In the event that a device is lost/stolen/broken we can use this information to definitevely identify who had the device last.

Thanks for the feature request! We have just started working on a feature to show the most recent device that a student has used (hopefully with a full log coming soon).

Thanks for alerting us to Leaf Browser Alpha. We are constantly adding new proxy/VPN/ghost browsers that allow students to bypass filtering and it has been added to our global blacklist. In the future, you can contact us directly when students find a bypass or add it to your own list of blacklisted apps. In addition, many schools use the “block all apps and extensions except the ones I allow” setting in the Google Admin Console to minimize the use of unauthorized apps.

    Hope this helps!

  7. Migrate the Classic View of sites and videos that were opened to Admin 2.0

Hi! So, in the Classic Admin View, on the left side, there is a dark grey box where you can select Google and it will show you all the You Tube, Google Searches, Google Docs, Apps&Extensions. It would be great if there is an easier way to do this on Admin 2.0, so it is easy to see what has been opened with a thumbnail and not having to click all around to see the information

  8. Make a mobile-friendly site

I suggest that you make a mobile-friendly site. Often I am out of my office away from a computer where I can easily whitelist or blacklist a website at a teachers' request. This would make this procedure much easier for me if it worked on a mobile device.

A mobile interface is being worked on in the new “Enhanced View”. Coming soon!

  9. View how long individual students spend on a website

We need to be able to view how long individual students spend on websites so we will be eligible for funding. Weekly or monthly reports would be very helpful.

  10. Add end times to to browsing records

In goguardian admin: Student browsing records in classic view posted end times for the pages visited. In 2.0 only start times are listed. Please list end times as well.
