  1. Lock the students computers onto a certain website, for a certain period.

I would love it if I could lock the students computers onto a certain website, for a certain period.

I am working on doing stations in my classroom where they go to 3 different stations (independent study/homework time, watch a video lecture of me, and time to ask me questions on lecture/homework).

I want to make sure they only watch the video that I decide on and that they can't go to other websites, this way they can only watch the video(s) I have chosen for them and stay on task at this station.

Since I am answering questions at…

      Hello!

Thank you very much for the wonderful suggestions. We are happy to share we have officially launched our new “Scenes” feature that supports the ability to lock students on a specific website during your class period. This new feature also includes other useful tools such as having the ability to auto-open tabs, manage tab usage (set the max number of tabs a student can open), and provides even more ways to manage site accessibility in your classroom. Check it out and please let us know what you think!

We’ve just released the ability to see running apps! When viewing a student, running apps will be displayed in the “open tabs” section.

We will continue to work on improving visibility of apps and extensions in GoGuardian Teacher. Currently, running apps will not show on a student’s screen (only in their tabs). Stay tuned!

              • Audible & visual alerts when students open non-approved websites.

Create an alert (audible & visual) when a student goes to a non-approved website. Just like my email makes a chiming noise when I get an email. It would be great if my computer would make a noise to let me know someone is on a website that isn't approved (the feature of creating "approved" websites would be a part of this). Then, if I'm walking around my room I can go to my desk and see who is doing what (the students profile flashing would be an easy way to indicate who the "offender" was) and redirect as necessary.

By allowing teachers to rearrange the listed order of students in sessions, we can better monitor the students who are more likely to be on the wrong site.

                  • Set a timer to automatically lock student screens after a certain time.

I often set a timer for my students in class then manually lock their screens to bring back their attention.

I would LOVE if I could set a timer on their screen that would countdown for them and then automatically lock when time is up. This feature is available on tools like Pear Deck and has been very helpful.

                    • Allow teachers to mute Chromebooks

If students are using an app that makes sound, it would be helpful to have an option to mute their Chromebooks so that the rest of the class isn't disrupted.

Need to create a feature that allows teachers to control students screens other than just closing tabs. Similar to the feature in the program iTalc.

We’re constantly looking for ways to improve the connection between teachers and their students, and this idea seems like a great way to do that!

We will look into the feasibility of this idea (technically) and get back to you.

                        • Make the student activity searchable so I can look at just one student's activity history. This would help with parent conferences.

I would love to be able to click on a student's name and it show me their average history on the computer. This way if a student is getting a poor grade in my class, I can show the parents that their activity online isn't helping their performance. It would be easier to correct chronic misuse that way instead of having to open it session by session and find their activity. That takes way too long and isn't practical.

                          • find a way to make sure students cannot trick the system.

Currently, students can split their Chromebook screens and choose which screen they want to show up on Go Guardian! A student demonstrated this can be completed today. He was able to have his Google Doc open and YouTube, and only the Google Doc appeared to be the item he was using on the screen. He could even move his mouse around in the YouTube screen without showing signs of being in YouTube on the screen for Go Guardian.

                            • Add a sort feature based on "level of concern" so the few students who require more frequent monitoring are at the top and easily visible.

Every class has one or two (or a few) students who tend to need more close monitoring than their peers. However, it's difficult to pick them out of the tile or list views. Allowing us to give a quick rating of students (red, yellow, green?) and then sort by "level of concern" would make it far easier to keep an eye on students who need it the most. Thanks!

                                  • Parent portal: For parents to see what their child is doing on their Chromebook

Very similar to how a teacher sees the student activity, it would be nice if parents had this option to see what their child is doing on the Chromebooks.

                                    • Block students from the chat feature.

The chat feature is nice, but occasionally it is getting misused. I would like to see the teacher be able to disable chat and also be able to "mute" students who misuse chat.

I would love to be able to click on a student's timeline of activity and send it as a file to a school administrator or parent.

Great idea! We’re adding reporting features in the near future and this would be a great addition!
